Dying on a day other than Friday

Question:

Salam. If a muslim dies on any other day but Friday, does that mean that there will be "azaab in the person's grave"?? (torment in the grave). Finally, I ask that all us muslims die on a Friday.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Dying on any other day than Friday is not an indication or evidence that the person is going to be punished in his grave. Similarly, dying on Friday is not by itself evidence that a person is not going to be punished in the grave. Many companions may Allaah be pleased with them whom the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) testified that they will be in Paradise, died on other days than Friday. For instance, Abu Bakr may Allaah be pleased with him died on Monday night, and 'Umar may Allaah be pleased with him was stubbed by Abu Moosa Al-Majoosy on Wednesday morning, and he died after three days, i.e. on Saturday, and he was buried on Sunday. Even the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) died on Monday.

Allaah does not punish a person for sins he did not commit.

As regards supplicating to die on Friday and not on other days, then this may be transgressing in supplicating.

Allaah Knows best.
