Question:

As There has been a debate in India on the subject of Yazid to say May Allah Peace be upon him . Could you please explain us whether can we say or not . Thanks

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

First of all, you should know that Yazeed ibn Mu’aawiyah is a person among the Muslims. However, during his reign, serious incidents happened and he committed grave matters; as a result he was ruled to be a dissolute person. Nonetheless, it not permissible to curse him as it is impermissible to curse a specific person.

One should not say " sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention )" when mentioning his name as he committed grave major sins.

His matter is in the Hands of Allaah, therefore, we should not supplicate for him or against him, as reported by many scholars may Allaah have mercy upon them among the righteous predecessors.

Allaah Knows best.
