Also going to restaurant and even getting food stuffs from duplicate bills for years which we had eaten so many years. Still I am working in the same company and getting salary also. Now I want to ask you whatever I did is haram in islam as I am working for that comapny for years? If yes than how to repay those money in years which I have made by cheating which I do not have any account. But I have some properties which I can sell and return those money. If I want to return those money to copmpany how I can return as no body knows about this cheating except me and Allah? Also would like to know the food which I have served to my family by cheating to company how to get maafi for that as food eaten by them for so many years.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

As for what you mentioned of cheating the company and duplicating the bills, then this is forbidden in Islam. Your regret and abstention from continuing this act are parts of Tawbah [repentance], but your Tawbah is not complete until the rights have been returned. If you do not know their exact amount, then you should take the safest course and spend what would make you predominantly think that your liability is absolved. This is regarding money, food, and other types of wealth.

Hence, you must return to the company what you took from them, even if not directly, and you are not required to inform the company or other authorities about what you did. It is sufficient that you return the right in whichever legal way you can.

When you finish paying back the value of the food you took without right and the money you took through the duplicate bills and so forth of your transgressions against the rights and wealth of others, then your liability will be absolved as clarified in Fataawa 86527 and 87903.

Allaah Knows best.
