Question:

As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakaatuh. Dear brother, should pregnant women perform the prayers?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Performing the prayer is an individual obligation upon each and every sane, mature Muslim man and woman. Muslim women are only exempted from performing the prayer during times of menstruation and post-partum bleeding. The prayers of Muslim women during times of menstruation and post-partum bleeding are invalid and they are not obliged to make up for these missed prayers after purification.

A pregnant woman is not exempted from performing the prayer by any means.

Allaah Knows best.
