Question:

As-Salamu ‘alaykum. Is it permissible for a woman to cover her teeth with gold?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for a woman to cover her teeth with gold. The Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: "Wearing silk and gold has been made unlawful to the men of my community and lawful to the women among them." [At-Tirmithi and others]

In principle, it is permissible for women to wear gold. Scholars, however, excluded from the permissibility the cases where wearing gold involves extravagance. Al-Hajjawi may Allaah have mercy upon him a Hanbali scholar, said: "It is permissible for women to wear whatever gold and silver is usually worn according to custom."

Allaah Knows best.
