Concealing beauty for fear of envy

Question:

Is it permissible to conceal the beauty of beautiful persons for fear of the evil eye, along with reading Sharee‘ah-approved Thikr?
Did the Prophet, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, mention this in any Hadeeth?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Concealing the beauty of a person out of fear of being exposed to the evil eye or envy is permissible, since this is considered one of the preventive methods mentioned by Ibn Al-Qayyim may Allaah have mercy upon him.  He also reported from Al-Baghawi that ‘Uthmaan may Allaah be pleased with him saw a beautiful boy so he asked his family to blacken the dimple on his chin to protect him from the evil eye.  However, Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allaah have  mercy upon him, noted that there is no Prophetic Hadeeth (narration) on this particular issue.

Allaah Knows best.
