Question:

I sometimes get wet dreams about being involved in some homosexual activity, It irritates me the whole time having such dreams and I really dislike it and feel disgusted .What should I do?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

A person bears no sin for what he sees during his sleep and you are not required to do anything regarding the fancies that you see in your dreams. A sleeping person is not liable for any religious obligation or assignment and will not be held accountable for anything that he does or sees (during his sleep). This is evidenced by the authentic Hadeeth in which the Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “The pen is lifted (i.e., stops from recording deeds) from three (kinds of) people: an insane person till he can reason, a sleeping person till he wakes up, and a child till he reaches puberty.

We would like to advise you to recite the reported Athkar before sleeping, and seek refuge in Allah, The Almighty, from the evil of Satan, while refraining from talking about such dreams. The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “If Satan plays with any one of you in his dreams, he should not tell people about it.” [Muslim and others]

Al-Minawi may Allaah have mercy upon him said in Faydh Al-Qadeer: “The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: ‘If Satan plays with any one of you in his dreams,’ meaning that he made him see a bad dream that saddened or confused him, ‘he should not tell people about it.’ It is recommended for him to refrain from telling it to others lest the dream interpreter would give him a more saddening interpretation, although such bad dreams are from Satan and carry no meaning. Rather, he should seek refuge with Allah, The Exalted, from Satan, spit on his left side, and turn to the other side.

Al-Qastalani may Allaah have mercy upon him said in Irshad As-Sari: “His saying: ‘and frightening dreams from Satan,’ means the bad dreams that saddens a person. Allah, The Exalted, Says (what means): {Private conversation is only from Satan that he may grieve those who have believed.} [Quran 58:10] An example of Satan’s playing with people is the wet dream that entails Ghusl.

Allah knows best.
