Question:

I want to ask question about chapters of Qur'an and names of Ayats, who gave numbers and names of Ayat and Surats, for example Surat Baqara has 282 Ayat?

Answer:

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.

Muslim scholars unanimously agree that AAYAT(verses) of Quran are arranged by the order of Allah. Whenever the AYAAT were revealed, Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) called the writers and dictated them those AYAAT and pointed out the names and places of Surahs where the AYAAT should be written. This arrangement and harmonization becomes a miraculous nature of Quran. This complete harmony shows that the Quran was descended from Almighty Allah alone. IMAM MALIK said: “Quran is composed as they (Muslims) used to listen from Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)".       Imam al Qurtubi said: “Quran was descended at once to the nearest heaven, then partly revealed to the Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) during twenty three years. Some times a whole Surah or some Ayaat were revealed in reply to a question. Gabriel guided the Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) to the proper placement of Ayah and Surah. All things were from Prophet (Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) by the Command of Almighty Allah. There is no chance or need for anyone to make any changes in it. Even a slight change could not occur. Allah knows best.
