Butterflies on Shower Curtain

Question:

My room has an attached bathroom with a pictured (butterflies) shower curtain. I always doubt about this, because it's forbidden hanging pictures of living things on the walls, as far as I know. Could you please explain this for me whether to remove this or not?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Hanging pictures of living beings (humans or animals) in the house or other places is forbidden. Hence, this act indicates that the photos have an importance and they deserve respect. This ruling applies to the pictures made of rough material and statues and the images and paintings drawn on walls, paper, curtains, etc.

The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) said: “Angels do not enter a house where there is a picture or a dog.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Anyway, hanging a picture in the toilet or bathroom does not contradict the mentioned ruling since it is humiliated there.

Also, that is the place of evil devils, not the place of angels.

But, if you remove the pictures from there, we think it is better.
