Question:

I am a frequent visitor of your site and what you all have done for the Muslim by the grace of Allah is marvelous and I have no words to describe it. I have many books about Du'a. But I have come to know that the Ayats from the Glorious Qur'an for the acceptance of Du'a said by the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) are the correct ones. Can you please tell me which Surats are for the acceptance of the Du'a. My fiance is studying in USA. He's looking for a job and I am praying that he gets a job in a Muslim country. Our marriage is also delayed till his job and I talk to him and chat with him on the internet (with the knowledge of my parents) but I don't feel comfortable about it .Can you please tell me a Du'a that I can make for my fiancé so that he gets a good job in a Muslim country, Insha Allah, and that we get married soon, Insha Allah?

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

As far as we know, there are no specific verses in the Quran which should be recited for the acceptance of supplications. But there are many verses that include supplications. In fact, Quranic supplications are superior to other supplications. Some of the Quranic supplications are as follows:

- {Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.} [Quran 2:286]

- {“Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.} [Quran 3:8]

- {“Our Lord, grant us from among our wives and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us an example for the righteous.”} [Quran 25:74]

- {“My Lord, forgive me and my parents and whoever enters my house a believer and the believing men and believing women.} [Quran 71:28]

There are many other verses. You may find a good collection of such supplications in the booklet entitled Ad-Du’aa’ min al-Kitaab was-Sunnah (supplications from the Quran and Sunnah) written by Sa’eed ibn ‘Ali ibn Wahf al-Qahtaani.

There are some factors for the acceptance of one's supplication. Some of them are as the following:

1) Supplicating at the times in which the supplications are most likely to be responded to, such as the last third part of the night.

2) Beginning the supplication by praising Allah and invoking blessing upon the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ).

3) Raising the hands for Du‘aa’ and supplicating Allah with persistence and humility.

4) Refraining from committing sins and evils, especially from ill-gotten money.

5) Fulfilling Islamic obligations and duties.

Finally, we advise you to insist on supplicating Allah for your own self and for your fiancé as well, taking into consideration the factors of acceptance of Du‘aa’ and the manners of supplicating. Surely, Allah (By His favor) will accept your supplications.

As far as the matter of chatting with a fiancé, know that a fiancé is a totally a non-Mahram man. If there is any necessity to talk with him, it should be with modesty and without being soft in speech.

We ask Allah to solve your problems, settle your matters and respond to your supplications.

Allah knows best.
