Question:

SALAAMUN ALAYKUM. MAY ALLAH PROTECT THE MUSLIM LIVES THE WORLD OVER.
IS IT PERMISSIBLE TO FOLLOW A FATWA RULING OF A SCHOLAR WHO CURSES THE PROPHET'S COMPANIONS IN ABSENCE OF SUNNAT WAL JAAMAAT SCHOLAR
WASLAAM.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

There is no doubt that the Fatwa is based on principles and conditions, among which is that the basis for the Fatwa should be from the Quran and the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) according to the understanding of the scholars of the Salaf: the companions, and those who followed them exactly in faith and whoever followed their methodology, may Allaah have mercy on all of them. So whoever his Fatwa is based on these principles and conditions, is eligible to give Fataawa. One of the scholars from the Salaf may Allaah have mercy upon him said: ''This (religious) knowledge is religion, so look from whom you take your religion.''

It is known that nowadays the scholars of Ahl As-Sunnah are available, and the means of communications, like the phone, internet and others are also available, so a Muslim is not in need to seek Fatwa from others who are known not to abide by the above conditions.

Allaah knows best.
