Question:

Assalamu alaikum. Is there any proof from Hadis that Verse 5:3-Islam completed and perfected-was revealed on Dul Haj 9 Friday on Day of Arafa and not on Dul Haj 10 Day of sacrifice?as Prophet(peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)gave sermon on both days.Salaam.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Once a Jew said to 'Umar may Allaah be pleased with him 'O leader of the believers! There is a verse in your Book (i.e. the Quran) which is read by all of you (Muslims), and had it been revealed to us (i.e. the Jews), we would have taken that day (on which it was revealed) as a day of celebration." 'Umar may Allaah be pleased with him asked: "What verse is this?" The Jew replied: "This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion." [Quran 5:3]. 'Umar may Allaah be pleased with him replied: "No doubt, we know when and where this verse was revealed to the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ); it was the day he sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) was standing at 'Arafah on a Friday."  [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Moreover, Ibn Hajar may Allaah have mercy upon him in his interpretation of the narrations reported by Al-Bukhari may Allaah have mercy upon him he mentioned some narrations which were reported with a different wording: "…And both of them, are days of 'Eed for us (i.e. the day of 'Arafah and the day of Friday).

Therefore, this narration is evidence that this verse was revealed on 'Arafah day and on Friday, which combined two 'Eeds.

Allaah Knows best.
