A Teardrop in Ramadan

A Teardrop in Ramadan

I shed a teardrop in Ramadan over those who do not take into consideration the sacredness of this month, its virtues and merits. They not only receive it as they receive other months – with sins and blatant violations -- they even stray farther away from Allah The Almighty. They invent all types of sins and abominations, depriving themselves and others from the outpouring of rewards, and they prepare themselves to fight the Lord of the heavens and earth. Indeed, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) spoke the truth when he explained the difference between people in preparing for Ramadan, in the Hadeeth (narration): “No month has come upon Muslims that is better than Ramadan, because of the strength that the believers prepare for worship, while the hypocrites prepare to follow the inattention and shortcomings of people. It is a blessing for the believer and a curse upon the dissolute.” [Ahmad, Al-Bayhaqi; Ahmad Shaakir: Saheeh]

A teardrop in Ramadan: over those who neglect the obligatory prayers because they sometimes sleep during the time of prayers, and sometimes delay them, and at other times leave them altogether.

A teardrop in Ramadan: over those who violate the sacredness of fasting by their obscenity and bad morals; they insult, curse, steal, backbite, and lie to people. If someone advises them, they argue that the reason behind their behavior is observing fasting, as if fasting is the reason behind these sins. In fact, they are heedless of the purpose of fasting, of its benefits and of its great rewards, the most important of which is obtaining piety, as Allah The Almighty Says (what means): {O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous.} [Quran 2:183]

Does piety call for insulting, cursing, and committing injustices and aggressions? The Messenger of Allah sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) said: “Whoever does not give up false speech and evil actions, Allah is of no need for leaving his food and drink.” [Al-Bukhari], so one must learn the reality of fasting.

A teardrop in Ramadan: over the women who go out to pray the Taraaweeh prayer adorned, perfumed and wearing their most beautiful dresses; the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) said: “Do not prevent the female servants of Allah from praying in the mosques of Allah, but they must go out (to the mosque) wearing no adornments or perfume.” [Abu Daawood; Al-Albaani: Saheeh] The Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allah exalt his mention ) also said: “Any woman who applies incense should not witness the ‘Ishaa’ prayer with us.” [Muslim]

A teardrop in Ramadan: over those who waste time in the holy month watching satellite channels and local TV programs which spread debauchery, nakedness, and buffoonery, whose levels of frivolity and lewdness are increased in this precious month in particular, to fight virtue and to violate the sacred seasons of the Muslim nation.
