As the conflict intensifies in the Middle East, Israeli-Palestinian violence spreads to Europe.

Fighting broke out at Orly airport in Paris on Tuesday between right-wing pro-Israeli activists and pro-Palestinian supporters who had come to greet anti-globalisation campaigner Jose Bove.

The French farmer was deported from Tel Aviv after visiting Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat in his besieged compound in Ramallah.

France's Jewish community of 700,000 is Europe's largest. They live alongside an Arab population of five million.

France has urged Israel to halt its military campaign on Palestinian territories saying its strategy could provoke a humanitarian crisis.

Both France and Belgium have been hit by a wave of anti-semitic violence in the past days, including several attacks on synagogues.
