Britain, France Probe 'British' Plane Bomb Suspect

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain and France launched investigations into how a man suspected of trying to blow up a transatlantic flight at the weekend had slipped through the security nets of the two countries.
As British police said they believed the man to be a British citizen, French authorities began investigations into how the man may have succeeded in taking explosives aboard Miami-bound American Airlines Flight 63 despite having gone through security checks at Paris's Charles de Gaulle airport on Saturday.
Europe has been on high alert since the September 11 attacks on the United States.
Last week British anti-terrorist officers intercepted a cargo ship off the English coast on an intelligence tip-off that it might be carrying guerrilla warfare materials to London.
