Passing by two Mawaaqeet

Question

We are from Al-Madeenah Al-Munawwarah and we went to At-Taa’if. Having hired a place for residence in At-Taa’if, we wanted to perform ‘Umrah. So we went to Makkah without wearing the Ihraam dress. Before reaching At-Tan‘eem, something happened to us and we did not complete the ‘Umrah. Are we required to do anything? Thank you!

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

If you did not assume Ihraam (having the intention to start the rituals of ‘Umrah, not just the intention to perform ‘Umrah), you are not required to perform ‘Umrah.

Since you had the intention to perform ‘Umrah, you were required to assume Ihraam from the Meeqaat of the people of At-Taa’if, which is Qarn Al-Manaazil (As-Sayl Al-Kabeer), not from At-Tan‘eem.

If you indeed assumed Ihraam, you are required to complete the rituals of ‘Umrah. Meanwhile, you are required to offer a sacrificial animal because you assumed Ihraam after passing the Meeqaat.

Allaah Knows best.
