A wife staying at her father’s house with her husband’s approval

Question

Asalam 3alaikum, i moved to Doha a year ago as my husband lives here, i am 7 months pregnant with my first child and living with my husband and his parents and my brother in law, my father has been working in Doha as well for 17 years so i get to visit him as often as i like. i have not seen my mother in 9 months and she will be coming in sept for my delivery, she will obviously be living with my dad (they r NOT seperated or divorced). i asked my husband if i could spend some nights over at my father's house before or after the baby is born, he seems to shun the idea of me "returning" to my father's house, my brother in law says "its culturlly looked down upon". my mother in law and father in law have no problem with it. My husband is not totally against the idea but just bother's too much about what his family thinks. I want to know if it is religiously allowed for me to spend a few nights at my father's house with my husband's approval?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His Slave and Messenger.

It is permissible for you to spend some time in your father's house with the approval of your husband, and there is no violation of Sharee‘ah in doing that. But if the husband refused, it is impermissible to go against his wish in this respect.

It is noteworthy here that the relation between the spouses is based, in principle, on mutual understanding, showing mercy to each other, and caring for each other’s needs.

Allaah Knows best.
