A person cannot be judged to enter Paradise or Hell except with a religious text

Question

Is it permissible to rule that a specific person is destined for Paradise or Hell? What if this person is someone like Sharon, is it permissible for us to say that he is destined for Hell?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and messenger.

A Muslim is obliged to love those whom Allaah The Almighty Loves and hate those whom Allaah Hates. Allaah Loves those who are mentioned in the following verses (which means):

· {Indeed, Allaah loves the doers of good.}[Quran 2:195]

· {Indeed, Allaah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.}[Quran 2:222]

· {Indeed, Allaah loves those who fear Him.}[Quran 3:76]

· {Indeed, Allaah loves those who rely [upon Him}[Quran 3:159]

· {Indeed, Allaah loves those who act justly.}[Quran 5: 42]

· {Indeed, Allaah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly.}[Quran 61:4]

On the other hand, Allaah Hates those who are mentioned in the following verses (which means):

· {Indeed. Allaah does not like transgressors.}[Quran 2:190]

· {Surely Allaah does not love the disbelievers.}[Quran 3:32]

· {Allaah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.}[Quran 4:36]

· {Indeed, Allaah loves not one who is a habitually sinful deceiver.}[Quran 4:107]

· {Allaah does not like the exultant.}[Quran 28:76] This part of the verse refers to those who are vain and ungrateful to Allaah.

· {Indeed, He does not like the arrogant.}[Quran 16:23]

· {Allaah does not like the public mention of evil except by one who has been wronged.}[Quran 4:148]

· {Indeed, He does not like those who commit excess.} [Quran 6:141]

As a matter of fact, loving those whom Allaah The Almighty Loves and hating those whom He Hates are the two essential elements for the perfection of faith.

However, it is not permissible for a Muslim to judge a specific person and say that he or she is destined for Paradise or Hell, because a person can never be sure whether a believer will die as a believer or whether a disbeliever will die as a disbeliever. This is something that is only known to Allaah Who Controls the hearts of His slaves.

Allaah Knows best.
