Authenticity of hadeeth on Soorah Al-Baqarah

Question

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu, Shaykh. "The one who recites Surah Al-Baqarah and asks Allaah for anything with firmness of faith will be given what he asked for." I heard that this is a hadith; I want to know about its authenticity. May Allaah reward you, Shaykh.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

Many ahaadeeth were reported from the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) on the virtue of Soorah Al-Baqarah, such as the hadeeth which reads, “Recite Soorah Al-Baqarah, as reciting it is a blessing, abandoning it is a cause of grief, and the sorcerers cannot confront it.” [Muslim]

Another hadeeth reads, “On the Day of Resurrection, the Quran and those who acted according to it will be brought with Soorah Al-Baqarah and Aal ‘Imraan preceding them… like two clouds, or two black canopies with light between them, or like two flocks of birds in ranks pleading for the one who recited them.” [Muslim]

Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, also narrated that the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) said, “Do not turn your homes into graves. Indeed, the devil flees from the house where Soorah Al-Baqarah is recited.” [Muslim]

However, after extensive research, we have not come across a hadeeth from the Prophet  sallallaahu  `alayhi  wa  sallam ( may  Allaah exalt his mention ) with the following wording: “The one who recites Soorah Al-Baqarah and asks Allah for anything with firmness of faith will be given what he asked for.

It is known that such a matter cannot be said by opinion; rather, it must be from an Islamic text [otherwise it cannot be accepted].

The fatwa of the Standing Committee reads, “Acts of worship are determined only by the texts of the Quran or the Sunnah and are not amenable to personal opinion; they are not permissible (legislated) unless there is evidence for them from the Book of Allah or the Sunnah.
