Son lying to parents about way he used their money

Question

Assalaamu alaykum. I have serious life problems that need to be solved. I have been doing business by lying to my parents. I used my parents' money for college tuition to start a software business. So I did not use it for education. Instead, I used it to fund my software development costs. I have asked permission from my mother to use her money to do this business, but my father does not know it yet. I know from the beginning that this is a sin and a wrong deed. I was really wondering: How do I repent from this? I am going to tell my parents anyway, and ask for their forgiveness and give them all the money that I got from my business. Is this enough? Suppose that my parents forgive me and tell me to continue my business, is it ok to continue my business with the profit that I made, or should I find money from another source? Thank you very much for your attention and time. Sorry for my English. May Allah reward you.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, is His slave and Messenger.

Repentance is made by giving up the sin, regretting committing it, resolving not to commit it again in the future, and returning the rights to their owners or seek their pardon and forgiveness.

Hence, if you tell your parents what you did and they forgave you, then there would be no harm on you and you are not obliged to do anything else in this regard. It is also permissible for you to carry on with your business relying on the profit that you made before.

Allah knows best.
