It is Disliked Naming with Compound Names

Question

Assalam alaikum My son name is arham, in my husband home all are calling him rashiq , so i like to change his name as Mohammed Rashiq Arham is this correct please tell me.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and all his companions.

We do not see any thing wrong to the aforesaid change, yet, it is preferable to limit to the first name “Mohammed” without appending another name to it because some scholars are of the view that it is disliked to use compound given names. Sheikh Bakr Abu Zaid said: “It is disliked to name the child with a compound given name such as Mohammed Ahmed … because it is a way to create confusion and ambiguity. This was not known among the righteous predecessors. This method was mainly used in the later generations, as mentioned previously. The following names also are similar to the compound given names: (Hassbullah, Rahmatullah, Jabratullah) except for 'Abdullah which is the most beloved name to Allah. Also the names appended to Rasool (Messenger) are disliked; for example: (Hassaburasool, Ghulamurasool … etc.) which is detailed in (Taghrib Al-Alqab).

Allah knows best.
