Praying Qunoot During Hard Times

Question

In the hanbali madhab we are supposed to pray qunut during Fajr and other prayers if there's a time of nawazil. If I understood correctly. What is and isn't nawazil?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds, and peace and blessing be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and all his companions.

If you mean the Hanbali Madh-hab, then you are not concerned with their Qunoot because according to their Madh-hab, Qunoot of Nawazil (calamities) is limited to the Great Imam, and not for every Imam. Al-Mardawi Al-Hanbali said in (Al-Insaaf): If the Muslims are stricken by a calamity, then the Imam is the one who exclusively makes Qunoot, according to this Madh-hab... Az-Zarkashi said: Qunoot is limited to the Great Imam or the Commander of the Army, not for every imam, this is the known opinion from the Madh-hab. [End of Quote]

Nawazil means the calamities and catastrophes that people may be stricken with, such as earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. Kashf Al-Qinaa’ reads: "Unless Muslims are stricken by a calamity, i.e. a catastrophe, then it is sunnah for the Imam of that time, i.e. the Great Imam (exclusively), to make Qunoot in prayers except for Friday to get that catastrophe warded off." [End of Quote]

Allah knows best.
