Whispers that Come to One’s Mind Unintentionally are Pardoned

Question

I get a lot of images of other gods when I pray salah. especially at the time of sujood What should I do now? Am I accountable for this? Am I committing shirk?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

These thoughts are whispers from Satan. The whispers that come to one’s mind unintentionally are pardoned. The authentic Hadith recorded by Al-Bukhari and Muslim, states, “Allah has accepted my invocation to forgive what whispers in the hearts of my followers, unless they put it to action or utter it.” Therefore, dear questioner, do not pay attention to these thoughts and ideas, as they are forgiven and have no effect on your faith, Allah willing. Try to neglect them whenever they come to your mind, and imagine the idea that you are prostrating before Allah, the Almighty, and there is nothing like Him. Do your best to avoid such thoughts, and it will be soon that you forget all about these evil whispers, because Allah, the Almighty, said about the Satan (what means): {Satan’s schemes are truly weak.} [Quran 4: 76]

Allah knows best.
