Praying at Home Because of an Illness

Question

I have foot pain and it hurts to walk and when I walk I feel like its worsening the healing process I will go book Doctor appointment but it could be days or weeks till I get a appointment so can I pray home in meantime.

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) is His slave and Messenger.

If the pain you are suffering from makes you unable to attend the congregational prayer, or makes it difficult for you, or causes you illness, or delays your recovery from it, then you are not obligated to attend, even according to the opinion that congregational prayer in the mosque is obligatory.

Al-Mardawi may Allaah have mercy upon him said in Al-Insaaf: “His statement: ‘The sick person is excused from attending Friday prayers and congregational prayers,’ is a matter of unanimous agreement. Likewise, he is excused if attending them may cause his illness to return.

Lastly, if you are sick, you can pray at home with your family in congregation, if that is possible for you.

Allah knows best.
