Question
Assalamu Alaikum. I create AI-generated videos of insects, birds, and marine animals for YouTube with soft background music. I only type prompts — no hand drawing. No humans or haram content. Purpose is education and halal income. Questions: 1) Is creating AI videos of insects, birds, and marine animals permissible? 2) Is digital/AI imagery different from hand-drawn (haram)? 3) Is background music allowed? 4) Is YouTube income halal? Please answer per Ahle Sunnah with daleel. Jazakallah."
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (
) is His Slave and Messenger.
There is no religious harm in generating digital images of living beings using artificial intelligence, and this does not fall under the prohibited form of image-making. This is because such images do not have a real physical existence; rather, they only appear through specific devices when the necessary conditions and technical requirements for displaying them are met.
As for music, it is prohibited according to the majority of scholars, based on the statement of the Prophet : “There will certainly be among my Ummah people who will deem lawful illicit relations, silk, alcohol, and musical instruments.” [Bukhārī]
Therefore, it is not permissible for you to use music as background in your videos.
Lastly, there is also no harm in earning from YouTube, as long as the content itself is permissible and the advertisements are permissible.
