Fatwa CenterMuslim Woman in US Wants to Uncover Her Face If She Feels Danger
Question
Now I live in the U.S.A. and I cover my face. Can I expose my face when I feel danger in these days?
Answer
All perfect praise be to Allah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad 
is His slave and Messenger.
In principle, a woman should cover her face for many reasons that have been made clear in Fatwa 81554.
However, as long as a woman fears that she may be harmed or be imprisoned, or faces other unbearable harassment, then she is permitted to uncover her face. However, if the harassment does not exceed making fun or jokes of her, then she should cover her face, be patient, and bear that disturbance.
We inform you that as a basic rule it is not permitted for a Muslim to live in a non-Muslim country.
