Claiming that asking forgiveness during night of Al-Qadr forgives all sins

Question

What can we say to the youth who commit sins all year not praying, not fasting, Zina and other big sins, and they say if you repent on the night of power Laylat Al-Qadr all your sins are wiped away and they say its enough once per year to repent on this blessed night then Allaah forgives you all your sins and they say, they can go back to their ways because they are born clean again after repenting on Laylat Al-Qadr. Can you give us a Fatwa regarding such youths and their evil ways?

Answer

All perfect praise be to Allaah, The Lord of the Worlds. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah, and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger. We ask Allaah to exalt his mention as well as that of his family and all his companions.

Such young people who are negligent about the obligations of Allaah and dare to commit great major sins are indeed trapped into the tricks of Satan who lured them. Indeed one of the means of Satan in misleading the people is to delay doing good and become arrogant and conceited. Allaah says (which means): {He [i.e. Satan] promises them and arouses desire in them. But Satan does not promise them except delusion.}[4:120].

Nobody knows whether he will live until the night of Al-Qadr (The lofty night during which matters are decreed) or be struck by death before it comes. If he is still alive on that night, how could he know that he will be able to perform good deeds in it, and if he performs good deeds, how could he be sure that his actions are accepted and that he is forgiven? Who told him that on this night Allaah forgives great major sins? So it is an obligation to remind these people of Allaah and invite them to repent before one regrets at a time when regrets are of no use. The person who corrects these people should be wise and choose the best method with them in doing so, like being kind and speaking to them in a good and gentle manner so that his correcting them will yield fruitfull results.

Allaah knows best.
