Question
What is the name of the virgin Mary's father and mother?
Answer
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon all his Family and Companions.
Mariam (Peace be upon her) is the daughter of Imran as Allah Says (interpretation of meaning): {And Maryam (Mary), the daughter of 'Imrân who guarded her chastity;}[66:12].
Ibn Katheer says: 'Mohammed Ibn Ishaq Ibn Yassar says his name is Umran Ibn Yashim Ibn Amun ….'[1/478]. Her mother is Hanna Bint Faqood as most interpreters mentioned.
Know however, dear brother, that this kind of question should not occupy the person from learning other issues which are more important for him now and in the Hereafter. The person should occupy himself in doing and learning what is good for him and what brings him closer to Allah.
